San Diego Zoo Safari Park
Imagine soaring for over one third of a mile high above the plains of Africa. That’s what Safari Park guests are able to do on the Flightline, planned by DPA. After purchasing tickets and attending orientation instructions at the Flightline plaza, fliers in their harnesses do the “astronaut walk“ past their friends on their way to the test line – a 400' long zip-line through the woods where they become accustomed to soaring. Then it’s a trip to the heights of the park, a walk out the grated gangway to the starting tower, you’re hooked into the carriage on the cable and... you’re off!
DPA also developed interpretive graphics, signage, logo and interactive elements for the Flightline ticketing plaza. Interpretive elements were designed to feature the flight of insects, birds and mammals, and their importance to our ecology. From bee house display cases to a suitcase kiosk, the Zoo’s worldwide involvement in conservation is featured, as is their reputation as a resource for biomimicry. Riders, their families and friends will gain a general understanding of aerodynamics and animal adaptations that allow them to soar.
